Modern Builders & Design started with a family that built things, and built wealth by doing it. Real estate investors, flippers, and tradesmen going back generations, my family was buying, renovating, and repositioning properties throughout the 2000s, long before "house flipping" was a trend on TV. I grew up in that world, on job sites and in framing crews, learning the trades hands-on from relatives who ran their own businesses instead of working for someone else's. My brother's commercial framing company gave me my start in construction; other family members gave me the rest, project by project, trade by trade.
That upbringing shaped the way I think about renovation: not as a series of transactions, but as an investment, in a property, in a client's home, in a long-term relationship. It's also where the name comes from. Modern Builders & Design isn't just a renovation company. It's a continuation of a family legacy of building, investing, and reinvesting in real estate, modernized for how homeowners and property owners operate today.
Our Floor Coatings division was built on a different foundation: over two decades of experience as a union-trained industrial coatings applicator and installer. That background brought a level of technical expertise and application standards rarely found in residential and commercial coatings work, and it remains the driving force behind the quality and durability our Floor Coatings division delivers today.

Where we are today
Modern Builders & Design exists at the intersection of those two worlds: a renovation company built on real estate instinct and family craftsmanship, and a coatings division built on experience in the industrial market. Few companies bring both under one roof, and that combination is exactly what allows us to serve clients across a wider range of projects, at a higher standard, than most contractors in our market.
Our focus has always been on the quality of the work and the strength of the relationships behind it. As we grow, that focus hasn't changed. We're building a company defined by craftsmanship, integrity, and results, with a reputation our clients and our community can rely on. Based in Fox River Grove and serving the northwest suburbs, we intend to be a name synonymous with quality for years to come.
